CEO of Neuroverse and a cognitive neuroscientist with a B.S. and M.S. in Biology and a Ph.D. in Cognitive Neurosciences – Biomedical Sciences. Over the last 19 years, he has pursued research into the mechanisms of the mind and brain, conducting behavioral field studies in Africa and Central America, as well as neurophysiology laboratory research at Harvard University and the National Institutes of Health. At NIH, he held a dual affiliation with the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders for five years.
His research has earned multiple awards, including the Donald B. Lindsley Prize for Behavioral Neuroscience, and has been featured in Nature Neuroscience. He was also selected for the Society for Neuroscience 2012 Hot Topics List. His seminal findings on the evolutionary and neural foundations of human cognition and language are now incorporated in neuroscience reference textbooks and university curricula worldwide.
In the past decade, Dr. Gil-da-Costa has focused on translational research, developing novel brain imaging techniques and brain-machine interfaces. At the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, his work led to several U.S. patents and to co-founding Neuroverse. He serves as a reviewer for multiple scientific journals and as a science advisor for the Science and Entertainment Exchange, as well as for the National Academies Keck Future Initiatives, contributing to the interdisciplinary report The Informed Brain in a Digital World on brain-computer interfaces.
