Prof. Dr. Girlene Alves da Silva is the current Rector of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) for the 2024–2028 term. Originally from Piauí, she is only the second woman to lead the institution since its founding in 1960.
Academic Background
- Bachelor’s Degree: Nursing from the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI) in 1992.
- Master’s Degree: Nursing from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 1997.
- Ph.D.: Nursing from the University of São Paulo (USP) in 2003, including a doctoral internship at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris.
- Postdoctoral Research: Institute of Social Medicine at UERJ in 2009.
Professional Career
She joined UFJF as a professor in 1997 and became a Full Professor in the Department of Applied Nursing in 2019. Before her appointment as rector, she served as the Director of the Faculty of Nursing from 2010 to 2014.
Her current administration, alongside Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Telmo Ronzani, focuses on strengthening scientific research, community outreach, and regional technological innovation.
